Give Me Another Moment in Time by Jan - Oceanic Phoenix
I wrote this poem sitting on a beach in Maui, watching my friend play with her children and grandchildren as the sun melted into the ocean.
My thoughts drifted to my own boys. I missed them and their children so much. I wished I could be on the sand with them — laughing, splashing, sharing that moment. But that’s a whole other story.
I read the poem to my friend, and she began to cry. Her daughter and daughter-in-law were moved as well. The words came straight from my heart.
I am sharing this publicly for the first time. I wrote it in the spring of 2023, and here we are in early 2026 — and the amount of change in my life since then has been phenomenal.
It was never meant to be a song. It began as a challenge from my now “ex” — to see who could write lyrics from the heart. When he heard mine, he put down his pen and said, “You won.”
The friend who cried that evening later chose not to remain in my life.
Sometimes the words we write from our heart give our soul permission to make the changes necessary to bring our biggest dreams to life. It wasn’t easy. Not even close.
But today, I am no longer wishing to play with my grandchildren. I am!
I have shared countless beach memories with my boys and their families. And I can honestly say — I am the happiest I have ever been in my life.

Give Me Another Moment in Time
The sun sets over a glassy sea tickling the waves with a romantic tease.
A splash breaks the silence and the colours ease.
I blink my eyes to see a pretty thing
wrapped in seaweed, pearls and treasured bling.
She turns to me and sings…
When the sun sets over the ocean waves, sit & watch the colourful rays.
When a soft breeze whispers, stop and listen to her words of wisdom.
When you have a child of mine, give thanks for another moment in time.
A memory rises whole, from the depths of my soul.
A knowing,
A calling,
A song written in part,
Awakening gently in my heart.
She turns to me and sings...
You’ve lived your life walking the line. It's time to live a life, no longer blind.
When the sun sets over the ocean waves, sit & watch the colourful rays.
When a soft breeze whispers, stop and listen to her words of wisdom.
When you hold a child of mine, give thanks for another moment in time.

Looking back I see my moments in time
I’ve lived low and in paradise, for a moment in time.
I’ve found and lost love, been a sister, a mother and a grandma
for a moment in time.
I know time is short. I don't want it to end.
I plead with the goddess "Please give me one more moment to make amends and I promise that"...
When the sun sets over the ocean waves,
I’ll sit & watch the colourful rays.
When a soft breeze whispers,
I’ll stop and listen to her words of wisdom.
When I hug a child of mine,
I’ll give thanks for another moment in time.
